St. John’s UMC hosts a weekly Tai Chi class. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise program with roots in martial arts. It emphasizes a mind-body connection using slow, gentle movements, meditation and deep breathing. Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance, agility, strength, flexibility, stamina, muscle tone, and coordination. Kathleen Goodwin, who helps with this program, has invited the preschool students to join the class March 21st at 10:00 a.m. in the gym. Please send your child to school in appropriate clothing (no dresses). Families are welcome to join us.
Our first center-wide activity will be a visit from a local musician. Aina Olonade joined the staff of SJUMC as Organist/Pianist in 2018. He earned a master’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of Texas-El Paso, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance at the University of Central Missouri. Prior to that, he studied organ and church music in his native Nigeria. Aina will do a short presentation for our students on Tuesday, February 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. The children will listen and hear many different organ sounds and then have some sing-along time.
We will have Pajama Day on Wednesday, January 16 and Thursday, January 17. We ask that you send your child to school in comfortable pj’s and shoes, that are appropriate for a full day of preschool. Ms. Klara, who is the children’s librarian at Erna Fergusson Library, will be visiting us these days. She will be reading several interactive books to the children.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center (gym). Students need to arrive at 5:45 p.m. Please take your child to their classroom, manually sign them in and then join us in the gym. Our toddler students do not take part in this program.
We ask that every family bring in a tray of finger foods or goodies to share at the reception that follows.
