July 22 – 26 Dr. Seuss – Oh, the thinks kids can think in this summer camp! This week children will explore the fantastical worlds created by the beloved Theodore Seuss Geisel, not only by reading his books, but also through fun activities and snacks. We plan to end the week with a Dr. Seuss-themed story time with the children’s librarian from Erna Fergusson library.
Open House will take place on Friday, August 9th, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for your child to meet and greet his or her teacher(s), new friends, and visit their new classroom. Class lists will be posted on the parent board right outside of room 138. Please be sure to visit Ms. Barb, our wonderful music and chapel teacher. She will be upstairs in room 242. Several of the Preschool Ministry Team members will be in the Son Shine Café to welcome families and provide refreshments.
Your first tuition payment is due on August 16, 2019. Tuition payments for September through May are due no later than the tenth of each month. There is a $20 late fee for payments received after the tenth of each month. Tuition for August is prorated due to classes starting later in the month. August is the ONLY month that will be prorated. The rates are as follows:

July 15 – 19 A Heart for Art – Our annual art camp is always full of messy and instructive fun! This week children will have the opportunity to explore art through a variety of materials and artistic techniques. Through painting, drawing, and sculpting, students will express their creativity as they form their own masterpieces. On Friday, we will have an art show to display their unique creations.
July 8 – 12 Camp St. John’s – Camp St. John’s offers the fun of a summer camping trip without the inconveniences of life in the wilderness. This week will be filled with imaginative fun as we “fish,” make s’mores, sing songs and have picnics. We will end the week by telling stories around a “campfire.”
July 1 – 5 U.S.A. Hooray! – This camp is all about celebrating our wonderful country. Our patriotic fun will include art activities and yummy snacks as well as learning about the diversity of the United States by exploring Native American and Hawaiian cultures. On Friday, we will celebrate with an all-American ice cream party. Please note the preschool will be closed Thursday of this week in observance of the Fourth of July.
June 24 – 28 Making Sense of our Senses –It makes “sense” to join us for some scientific fun with our senses! From guess-that-smell games to experiments with textures, children will learn all about the five ways we can explore God’s world around us. Every day we will investigate a different sense through engaging and creative projects and activities. We will end the week with a fun activity that uses all our senses at once: making edible chocolate play dough!
June 10 – 14 Cooks ‘n’ Books – This camp combines literacy and cooking skills in one! Each day students will read a classic book, such as The Little Red Hen or Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and then participate in a cooking activity based on that story. By the end of this camp children will have made a recipe book and have learned some basic cooking techniques along with important safety rules for the kitchen.
June 3 – 7 Alice in Wonderland – Fall down the rabbit hole with us as we enter a wonderland of fun and learning. In this camp we will explore the whimsical story of Alice in Wonderland and share in some of Alice’s adventures. Children will practice manners during an “un-birthday” tea party, use large motor skills as they play flamingo croquet, and get artistic as they paint the Queen of Hearts’ roses. On Friday, we plan on attending a showing of Sesame Street’s Abby in Wonderland in St. John’s theater room, the “Son” set Cinema.
Our center-wide activity will be the end-of- the-year celebration. This will take place on Wednesday, May 22, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the gym. This will be a short but sweet time of fellowship and goodbyes. We will have an art table set up, jumpers, karaoke with Ms. Barb and an ice cream cone for everyone.
This celebration is for the pre-k students who have completed the pre-k program and are moving up to kindergarten. This will take place on Friday, May 17, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. in the gym. Both pre-k classrooms will be singing several songs together and then each child will be presented with a certificate from their teacher. Chef Tim and his team will prepare lunch for this event. The fee is $8.50 per adult and $4.50 per child. The preschool will cover the fee for every pre-k student.
St. John’s UMC hosts a weekly Tai Chi class. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese exercise program with roots in martial arts. It emphasizes a mind-body connection using slow, gentle movements, meditation and deep breathing. Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance, agility, strength, flexibility, stamina, muscle tone, and coordination. Kathleen Goodwin, who helps with this program, has invited the preschool students to join the class March 21st at 10:00 a.m. in the gym. Please send your child to school in appropriate clothing (no dresses). Families are welcome to join us.
